UPDATE — PSX closes near flat at 167,118 after a volatile Friday session

The Pakistan Stock Exchange ended a choppy Friday session almost where it started, with the benchmark KSE-100 index closing at 167,118.25, down just 75.18 points or 0.05 percent from Thursday’s close of 167,193.43. The near-flat finish hides a wild day: after morning selling pushed the index below 167,000, it fell further in the afternoon, touching 166,602.64 at 3:10pm, down 590.79 points, before buyers returned into the close. The recovery from the afternoon low meant the market gave back only a small part of Thursday’s 1,456-point rally, which had taken the index to its highest finish since early October. Friday’s session was the last of the week, and the index held above the 167,000 mark at the close despite spending much of the day below it. For ordinary readers, the lesson is the same as Thursday’s: one session’s swings are not a buy or sell signal. What matters is whether the market can hold near these levels in the coming sessions or whether selling builds again. Sources: PSXExpert, Business Recorder.
