Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson says his side have saved their best cricket for Saturday’s tri-series final against Sri Lanka in Lahore, despite winning their first three matches without big scores from their senior batters. Pakistan secured their place in the summit clash at Gaddafi Stadium on 31 October with three consecutive victories at the start of the tournament. Hesson noted that no Pakistan batter features among the top five run-scorers in the competition, with opener Fakhar Zaman and former captain Babar Azam yet to register a half-century despite featuring in every match. “To get three wins in a row without contributions from a few of our key players is a good sign,” he said, adding: “I still don’t think we have played our best game yet. Hopefully, we are saving that for the final.” Since taking charge last year, Hesson has led Pakistan to 12 victories in 19 one-day internationals, including series wins against Australia, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Saturday’s final is also a rematch of the league game Sri Lanka won by eight wickets after bowling Pakistan out for 110, giving the hosts a swift chance to answer their heaviest defeat of the campaign.
