The Sindh government observed Kashmir Black Day on Tuesday with rallies and events across the province to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people, the Express Tribune reported. In Karachi, a rally was planned from Peoples Chowrangi to the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam, where participants were to observe a minute of silence.
Provincial spokespersons told a press conference in Clifton that 27 October 1947 marked the beginning of the Kashmir dispute, and that rallies would also be held at divisional headquarters. Schools, colleges and universities were to organise debates and competitions to raise awareness about the issue.
The observance was led by provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah and Syed Ali, according to the report, and organisers said the programmes would remain peaceful. The day is observed in Pakistan each year to highlight the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
