Shadab Khan’s record 113 takes Pakistan into tri-series final after one-wicket thriller

Pakistan booked a place in the ODI tri-series final with a remarkable one-wicket win over England in Lahore on Sunday, chasing 242 after being reduced to 154 for nine. All-rounder Shadab Khan struck an unbeaten 113 off 96 balls, including 13 fours and five sixes, in the highest individual score in ODI history by a batter at number eight or lower. Shadab shared an unbroken 89-run last-wicket stand with Haris Rauf, who made seven off 19 balls — the highest tenth-wicket partnership in a successful ODI run chase, beating a record that had stood since 1975. The drama peaked when Shadab was given out lbw on 97 with 21 runs still needed, only for a review to show an inside edge and keep the chase alive. England, bowled out for 241 despite Ben Duckett’s 105, suffered a third straight defeat in the series, which also involves Sri Lanka. Pakistan will now play Sri Lanka in Lahore on Tuesday before the final on 31 October, with momentum firmly on the hosts’ side. Sources: Reuters, The National.
