PM orders fast-tracking of Gilgit-Baltistan projects, early completion of 100MW solar plant

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed officials to fast-track ongoing federal development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan, ensure timely release of funds and remove implementation bottlenecks on a priority basis. He issued the directions while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad on Friday, attended by Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain.

The meeting reviewed hydropower, infrastructure and solar energy projects, and the prime minister directed the earliest possible completion of the federal government’s 100-megawatt solar power project for the region. It also discussed completing the China-funded Naltar power project and expanding digital infrastructure, alongside a July committee’s report on project hurdles and remedies.

The prime minister is expected to visit Gilgit-Baltistan on 1 November for commemorations marking the region’s liberation from Dogra rule in 1947. For residents, the test of Friday’s directions will be visible progress — completed energy projects and released funds — rather than the directions themselves.
