Petrol, diesel prices up 26% in under four months as weekend rates take effect

Petrol in Pakistan has risen 26.11% since 1 July, from Rs299.50 to Rs377.71 per litre by 24 October, while high-speed diesel is up 26.39%, from Rs311.47 to Rs393.66 per litre. That is an increase of Rs78.21 per litre for petrol and Rs82.19 for diesel in the first nearly four months of the 2026-27 fiscal year.

For the 24-26 October weekend, the Petroleum Division kept petrol unchanged at Rs377.71 but raised diesel by Rs1.91 per litre, from Rs391.75 to Rs393.66, under the daily pricing mechanism. Higher fuel costs are feeding through transport fares, freight charges and the movement of farm produce.

The pressure is visible in household budgets. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics’ weekly Sensitive Price Indicator for 51 essential items rose about 5.81% between 2 July and 22 October, while city reports put chicken as high as Rs700 per kilogram and cooking oil near Rs600 per litre. Tandoor owners have warned roti could rise by Rs5-10 if gas prices do not ease.
