Pakistan’s reserves hit record $21.5 billion in first quarter as exports and remittances rise

Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank rose 52% year-on-year to a record $21.5 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, according to the Ministry of Finance’s Pakistan Macro, Reform and Investment Scorecard for July-September 2026. Total liquid reserves reached $26.8 billion, giving more than three months of import cover against 2.2 months a year earlier.

Total exports grew 11% to $11.2 billion, including goods exports of $8.5 billion and services exports of $2.7 billion. Information technology exports rose 18% to $1.25 billion, while workers’ remittances increased 14% to $10.9 billion and foreign direct investment rose 20% to about $720 million.

The scorecard also reported a net foreign investment inflow of $3.65 billion, against a net outflow of $33 million a year earlier. The improvement in buffers matters for households because stronger reserves support the rupee and limit imported inflation, though the current account deficit still widened to $874 million in the quarter.
