Pakistan is pushing for the early signing of a proposed Pakistan-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) free trade agreement, in talks between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Rajeh Albugamy, in Islamabad on Saturday. The meeting was reported by Business Recorder from an official statement. Both sides discussed the agreement’s early signing and implementation, with the minister saying it would improve market access for Pakistani exporters, expand bilateral trade and deepen economic engagement. They also agreed to keep up regular coordination on trade, investment and agricultural cooperation, and to turn the longstanding friendship between the two countries into stronger economic ties. The agreement itself is not yet signed, so no new trade terms take effect from this meeting. For exporters, the significance is in the direction: Pakistan has already completed its domestic approval process, and the push now is to finish the remaining formalities with Gulf states so that market access can actually follow.
