Pakistan, Qatar push trade task force into action with 11 working groups

Pakistan and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to stronger economic ties at the second meeting of the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Task Force on Trade and Investment in Doha, co-chaired by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed. The meeting reviewed progress since the task force’s first session in April 2026.

Pakistan urged Qatar to support the early signing of the proposed Pakistan-Gulf Cooperation Council free trade agreement and sought the removal of restrictions on Pakistani bone-in meat exports. It also proposed cooperation between the Trading Corporation of Pakistan and Qatar’s Hassad Food for rice supplies, and pitched Qatari investment in grain storage, cold chains, electric vehicles, digital infrastructure, maritime transport and the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway.

Both sides agreed to operationalise 11 technical working groups covering logistics, aviation, manufacturing, minerals, agriculture, tourism, financial technology, healthcare, education, industry, information technology and startups. The groups will prepare progress reports before the task force’s third meeting, to be held in Pakistan.
