At least five people were killed and 27 others injured when a passenger bus plunged into a drain in Punjab’s Hafizabad district on Thursday, according to Rescue 1122. The accident happened in the Fatehke area of Pindi Bhattian tehsil, while the bus was travelling from Raiwind to Chiniot.
Rescue officials said overspeeding caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Rescue teams reached the site quickly, gave first aid at the scene and took the injured to hospital, while a crane lifted the bus so the bodies of five passengers trapped beneath it could be recovered. Searchers continued checking the wreckage in case more passengers were trapped.
The crash follows two other deadly road accidents in recent days: 12 people were killed near Uthal in Balochistan last week, and 10 were killed when a bus overturned in Rajanpur on 21 October. Together they underline how often speeding turns a routine journey into a tragedy.
