Lahore fines 1,763 smoke-emitting vehicles in October, seals 41 industrial units

Lahore authorities fined 1,763 smoke-emitting vehicles during October and imposed penalties totalling Rs5.5 million, figures shared at a meeting chaired by Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousuf showed. Another 739 vehicles were impounded in the same period, and overloaded vehicles were offloaded.

The anti-smog drive went beyond traffic: 2,018 industrial units were inspected across Lahore division, with 41 units and 146 restaurants sealed for causing pollution. Action was also taken at 49 locations against crop-residue burning, leading to eight FIRs and fines of Rs240,000.

The enforcement figures show the administration’s side of the smog fight — penalties and closures rather than only advisories. Whether the drive brings readings down depends on sustained action through the winter months, when falling temperatures and still air keep pollutants trapped over the city. For residents, the practical message remains unchanged: mask up outdoors and cut unnecessary travel on bad-air days.
