Pakistan, Germany agree to expand trade and investment under GSP Plus

Pakistan and Germany have agreed to expand bilateral trade and investment, with the GSP Plus framework at the centre of Pakistan’s access to European markets. The understanding came in a meeting of the Pakistan-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by its convener and National Assembly Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, with German Ambassador Ina Lepel at Parliament House.

Both sides reviewed ways to overcome regulatory bottlenecks and resolve export-related challenges, while also discussing academic collaboration, student scholarships, cultural exchanges, women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship. The deputy speaker highlighted the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026 and hoped for a counterpart friendship group in the German Bundestag.

The German ambassador reaffirmed cooperation in development, climate change, renewable energy, vocational training and skills development. For Pakistani exporters, the practical test will be whether the talks translate into fewer hurdles for goods reaching European buyers.
