The government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs3.19 per litre to Rs376.06 and raised high-speed diesel by Rs2.25 to Rs398.07, with the revised prices effective from Wednesday, 28 October. According to the Petroleum Division, petrol falls from Rs379.25 and diesel rises from Rs395.82 a litre under the regular pricing mechanism, which reflects international Platts rates, premiums and other charges assessed by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
For motorists, the petrol cut brings modest relief — a 50-litre fill costs about Rs159.50 less than before. Diesel users face the opposite pressure: higher diesel raises operating costs for public transport, goods carriers and farm machinery, and because diesel moves most goods across the country, it can feed into transport fares and the prices of essential items if operators pass the increase on.
