Eighth polio case of 2026 confirmed as 24-million-child campaign begins today

Pakistan has confirmed its eighth polio case of 2026, health officials said, as a new nationwide vaccination campaign began on Monday targeting 24 million children under five.

The latest case was reported from Sindh, bringing the year’s total to eight. Officials said the campaign would run for a week, with teams visiting homes, schools and transit points across the country.

Health authorities urged parents to ensure their children received the drops, noting that Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only countries where wild poliovirus is still endemic. Security arrangements had been made for vaccination teams, officials said.
