Pakistan shipped 420,000 tonnes of rice in September, outpacing Vietnam’s 337,000 tonnes and placing it among the world’s top exporters for the month, according to trade data cited by exporters.
The strong monthly showing was driven by firm demand for basmati and non-basmati varieties from Africa, the Gulf and Southeast Asia. Exporters said competitive prices and improved availability after the harvest supported the volumes.
Industry officials said Pakistan’s rice exports were on track for a strong year, although they cautioned that freight costs, currency movements and competition from India and Thailand would remain key factors.
