Pakistan has warned Afghanistan’s Taliban leadership that terrorism remains a “red line” and that its national security cannot be held hostage to Kabul’s inaction, in a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday night. Geo News and PTI, via The Week, reported the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting statement.
The ministry said the Taliban leadership continued to blame Islamabad’s policies while ignoring what it called the single most important issue poisoning relations: the persistent failure to address terrorism emanating from Afghan soil. It said Pakistan would not tolerate militant sanctuaries across the border and reserved the right to take all necessary measures, in accordance with international law, to eliminate threats to its national security.
The statement responded to remarks by Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, who said Islamabad lacked readiness for a peaceful resolution. Geo reported, citing the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, that Pakistan recorded 225 militant attacks in September 2026, its highest monthly tally in 12 years.
