Sindh has launched its November polio vaccination campaign, aiming to vaccinate nearly 6.8 million children across 20 districts from 2 to 8 November. Sindh Secretary Health Tahir Hussain Sangi inaugurated the campaign on Saturday at the Khalid Jameel Dispensary in District East, Karachi, The Nation and UrduPoint reported.
Vaccination will be available through door-to-door teams and fixed vaccination sites, and every child under five must be reached, the secretary said. The drive comes as poliovirus has been detected in environmental samples: only one sample was positive last month, but six have tested positive this month, according to the Sindh Emergency Operations Centre.
Polio vaccination matters because the virus spreads silently through the environment before any child shows symptoms, which is why the campaign targets all children under five rather than only those who appear ill. Parents are asked to make sure their children are present when vaccination teams visit, or to take them to a fixed site during the campaign week.
