Rupee gains three paisa to Rs276.77 in interbank market

The Pakistani rupee strengthened slightly against the US dollar in the interbank market, closing at Rs276.77 after gaining three paisa from Rs276.80, according to State Bank of Pakistan figures reported on Thursday. The move is small, but it continues a run of relative stability for the currency around the Rs277 level.

In the open market, the dollar was bought at Rs277.55 and sold at Rs280.10, a reminder that cash rates for the public run higher than the interbank rate because exchange companies add their costs and a spread. Other interbank rates reported alongside included the Saudi riyal at Rs73.75 and the British pound at much higher levels, reflecting the dollar’s global strength.

For households and small businesses, a steady rupee matters because it feeds directly into the cost of imports, from fuel to machinery to everyday goods. A three-paisa gain changes little on its own, but stability helps keep those costs predictable.
