Karachi police on Monday arrested the prime suspect allegedly involved in stealing the mobile phones of 59 women who were brought to a farmhouse in Gadap on 1 October on the pretext of job interviews, Dawn reported. Malir SSP Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said the suspect was identified as Babar alias Sahil Salman.
Police recovered 40 mobile phones from his possession when he was arrested while allegedly on his way to sell them, the SSP said. Two other people, Waqas, who had booked the farmhouse, and Nargis, the event coordinator, had been arrested earlier, along with a man accused of helping the main suspect escape.
The SSP said the suspect had allegedly created a WhatsApp group and job advertisements to lure the women, then hired a bus to take them to the farmhouse. Police said efforts were under way to arrest another absconding suspect believed to hold the remaining 19 phones.
